GREEN COMPUTING & TECHNOLOGY

Green computing, Green ICT as per IFG International Federation of Green ICT and IFG Standard, green IT, or ICT sustainability, is the study and practice of environmentally sustainable computing or IT.
Besides other resources, an average of 95 liters of water & 0.36 kg of coal is required to produce 1 kilowatt-hour of electricity. In India, majority of power generation is by coal and fossil fueled power plants. Coal-fired plants account for 59% of India's installed electricity capacity. Over one third of India's rural population lacked electricity, as did 6% of the urban population. Coal plants emit a huge amount of radioactive material into the atmosphere. A 1,000 MW coal-burning power plant releases as much as 5.2 tons/year of uranium (containing 74 pounds of uranium-235) and 12.8 tons/year of thorium. The radioactive emission from this coal power plant is 100 times greater than a comparable nuclear power plant with the same electrical output; including processing output, the coal power plant's radiation output is over 3 times greater.
